2013-02-22 – February General Meeting, Officer for the Meeting: Mike Keefe
This meeting consisted of members that are doing video astronomy.  It was done in a panel format.  Mike Keefe ask questions and the panel members answered them.  First they describe why they go into video astronomy and what sort of equipment they used.  Various answers were given.  One answer was a way of giving his daughter a way to view the stars via a smartphone.  This allowed her to see and to draw the horse head nebula. It also gave her something to hold onto without having to touch an expensive telescope and equipment.
Another answer involved being able to see the stars better, even with not optimal eyesight.  The panelists went into detail the different equipment that they used.  Some of that equipment was brought in to demonstrate.  The different apps were discussed.  Software was
discussed as well.
The last topic was light pollution and astronomy outreach.  For the video astronomers, light pollution is not a big concern.  In fact, with the screens etc.  they generate some local light pollution.  So it is necessary for the video astronomers to be aware if there are any visual or imaging astronomers that would be affected.  There was some talk about having a big screen to show the images on for
outreach.  This was a good panel discussion and lots of questions were asked.
